Genesis 12:13

Genesis 12:10

And there was a famine in the land: and Abram went down into Egypt to sojourn there; for the famine [was] grievous in the land.

Note that the Bible does not say God told Abraham to journey into Egypt, it APPEARS to be Abraham's decision to go there, with the following actions taking place, that force him back into the land God promised him...

Genesis 12:9

And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.

Genesis 12:8

And he removed from thence unto a mountain on the east of Bethel, and pitched his tent, [having] Bethel on the west, and Hai on the east: and there he builded an altar unto the LORD, and called upon the name of the LORD.

Bethel is located approx 12 miles to the north of Jerusalem.

Genesis 12:7*

And the LORD appeared unto Abram, and said, Unto thy seed [descendants] will I give this land: and there builded he an altar unto the LORD, who appeared unto him.

Prophecy to come.

Genesis 12:6

And Abram passed through the land unto the place of Sichem [or Shechem], unto the plain of Moreh"[also called "Alon Morah, the terebinth tree of Moreh]. And the Canaanite [was] then in the land.

A terebinth denotes a large tree (usually oak), and in later books of the Bible they are the groves of tree's where ritual sacrifice take place.

Genesis 12:5

And Abram took Sarai his wife, and Lot his brother's son, and all their substance [possessions] that they had gathered, and the souls [people] that they had gotten in Haran; and they went forth to go into the land of Canaan; and into the land of Canaan they came.

Genesis 12:4

So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram [was] seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran.

Abraham left Haran 2025 years after Adam's creation.

Genesis 12:3*

And I will bless them that bless thee, and curse him that curseth thee: and in thee shall all families of the earth be blessed.

Future Prophecy

Genesis 12:2

And I will make of thee a great nation, and I will bless thee, and make thy name great; and thou shalt be a
blessing:

Genesis 12:1

Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father's house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

Genesis 11:32

And the days of Terah were two hundred and five years: and Terah died in Haran.

Terah will live to see Jacob.

Genesis 11:31

And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son's son, and Sarai his daughter in law,
his son Abram's wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there.

Lot was Abraham's nephew
