Genesis 31:10

And it came to pass at the time that the cattle [flocks] conceived, that I lifted up mine eyes, and saw in a dream, and, behold, the rams which leaped upon the cattle [were] ringstraked [streaked], speckled, and grisled [gray-spotted].

Geneva Bible -For in ramming time I lifted up mine eyes and saw in a dream, and behold, the he goats leaped upon the she goats, that were party colored with little and great spots spotted.

Genesis 31:9

Thus God hath taken away the cattle of your father, and given [them] to me.

Geneva Bible - Thus hath (c) God taken away your father’s (*) substance, and given it me.
(c) This declareth that the thing, which Jacob did before, was by God's commandment, and not through deceit.
(*) Or, cattle.

Genesis 31:8

If he said thus, The speckled shall be thy wages; then all the cattle[flocks] bare speckled: and if he said thus, The ringstraked [streaked] shall be thy hire; then bare all the cattle ringstraked.

Geneva Bible - If he thus said, The spotted shall be thy wages, then all the sheep bare spotted; and if he said thus, The party colored shall be thy reward, then bare all the sheep party colored.

Genesis 31:7

And your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages ten times; but God suffered him [did not allow him] not to hurt me.

Geneva Bible - But your father hath deceived me, and changed my wages (*) ten times; but God suffered him not to hurt me.

And ye know that with all my power [might] I have served your father.

Genesis 31:5

And  said unto them, I see your father's countenance [face], that it [is] not  toward me [not favourable] as before; but the God of my father hath been with me.

Geneva Bible - Then said he unto them, I see your father’s countenance, that it is not towards me (1) as it was wont, and the (b) God of my father hath been with me.
(1) Hebrew: as yesterday and before yesterday.
(b) The God whom my fathers worshipped.

Genesis 31:4

And Jacob  sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock,

Geneva Bible - Therefore Jacob sent and called Rachel and Leah to the field unto his flock.

Genesis 31:3

And the LORD said unto Jacob, Return unto the land of thy  fathers, and to thy kindred; and I will be with thee.

Geneva Bible - And the LORD had said unto Jacob, Turn again into the land of thy fathers, and to thy kindred, and I will be with thee.

Genesis 31:2

And Jacob beheld the  countenance of Laban, and, behold, it [was] not toward him [not favourable] as before.

Genesis 31:1

Geneva Bible - Now he heard the (a) words of Laban’s sons, saying, Jacob hath taken away all that was our fathers, and of our father’s goods hath he gotten all this honor.
(a) The children uttered in words that which the father dissembled in his heart for the covetous think that whatsoever they cannot snatch, is plucked from them.

Genesis 30:43

And the man increased exceedingly [prospered], and had  much cattle [large flocks], and maidservants, and menservants, and camels, and asses [donkeys].

Geneva Bible - So the man increased exceedingly, and had many flocks, and maidservants,
and menservants, and camels and asses.

Genesis 30:42

But when the cattle were  feeble, he put [them] not in: so the feebler were Laban's, and the  stronger Jacob's.

Geneva Bible - But when the sheep were feeble, he put them not in; and so the feebler were Laban’s, and the stronger Jacob’s.

Genesis 30:41

And it came to pass, whensoever the stronger cattle [livestock] did conceive, that  Jacob laid the rods before the eyes of the cattle in the gutters, that  they might conceive among the rods.

Geneva Bible - And in every ramming time of the (m) stronger sheep, Jacob laid the rods
before the eyes of the sheep in the gutters, that they might conceive before the
rods.
(m) As they which took the ram about September and brought forth about March; so the feebler in
March and lamb in September.

Genesis 30:40

And Jacob did  separate the lambs, and set the faces of the flocks toward the
ringstraked [streaked], and all the brown in the flock of Laban; and he put his
own flocks by themselves, and put them not unto [with] Laban's cattle.

Geneva  Bible - And Jacob parted these lambs, and turned the faces of the flock towards those
lambs party colored, and all manner of black, among the sheep of Laban; so he
put his own flocks by themselves, and put them not with Laban’s flock

Genesis 30:39

And the flocks conceived before the rods, and brought  forth cattle ringstraked [streaked], speckled, and spotted.

Geneva Bible - And the sheep (*) were in heat before the rods, and afterward brought forth
young of party color, and with small and great spots.
(*) Or, conceived.

Genesis 30:38

And he set the rods which he  had pilled [peeled] before the flocks in the gutters in the watering troughs  when the flocks came to drink, that they should conceive when they came  to drink.

Geneva Bible - Then he put the rods, which he had pilled, in the gutters and watering
troughs, when the sheep came to drink, before the sheep. (For they were in heat,
when they came to drink.)

Genesis 30:37

And Jacob took him rods of green poplar, and of the hazel  and chesnut tree; and pilled [peeled] white strakes [strips] in them, and made the white  appear which [was] in the rods.

Geneva Bible - Then Jacob (l) took rods of green poplar, and of hazel, and of the chestnut tree, and pilled white strakes in them, and made the white appear in the rods.
(l) Jacob herein used no deceit, for it was God's commandment as he declareth in Genesis 31:9-11 .

Genesis 30:36

And he set three days journey betwixt [between] himself and Jacob:  and Jacob fed the rest of Laban's flocks.

Geneva Bible:  And he set three days journey between himself and Jacob. And Jacob kept the rest of Laban’s sheep.

Genesis 30:35

And he removed that day the he goats that were ringstraked [streaked] and spotted, and all the she goats that were
speckled and spotted, [and] every one that had [some] white in it, and all the brown among the sheep, and gave [them] into the hand of his sons.

Geneva  Bible - Therefore (*) he took out the same day the he goats that were party colored
and with great spots, and all the she goats with little and great spots, and all that
had white in them, and all the (♣) black among the sheep, and put them in the
keeping of his sons.

Genesis 30:34

And Laban said, Behold, I would it might be according to thy word.

Genesis 30:33

So shall my righteousness answer for me in time to come, when it shall come for my hire [about my wages] before thy face: every one that [is] not speckled and spotted among the goats, and brown among the sheep, that shall be counted stolen with me.

Geneva Bible - So shall my (k) righteousness answer for me hereafter, when it shall come for
my reward before thy face, and every one that hath not little or great spots
among the goats, and black among the sheep, the same shall be (*) theft with me.

Genesis 30:32

I will pass through all thy flock to day, removing from thence all the speckled and spotted cattle [sheep], and all the brown cattle among the sheep, and the spotted and speckled among the goats: and [of such] shall be my hire [be my wages].

Geneva Bible - I will pass through all thy flocks this day, and (*) separate from them all the
sheep with little spots and great spots, and all (♣) black lambs among the sheep,
and the great spotted, and little spotted among the goats; (i) and it shall be my
wages.

Genesis 30:31

And he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob said, Thou shalt not give me any thing: if thou wilt do this thing for me, I will again feed [and] keep thy flock

Geneva Bible - Then he said, What shall I give thee? And Jacob answered, Thou shalt give
me nothing at all. If thou wilt do this thing for me, I will return, feed, and keep
thy sheep;

Genesis 30:30

For [it was] little which thou hadst before I [came,] and it is [now] increased unto a multitude; and the LORD hath blessed thee [at my foot] since my coming: and now when shall I provide for mine own house also?

Geneva Bible - For the little, that thou hadst before I came, is increased into a multitude, and the LORD hath blessed thee (*) by my coming. But now when shall (h) I travel for mine own house also?
(*) Hebrew: at my feet.
(h) The order of nature requireth that every one provide for his own family.

Genesis 30:29

And he [Jacob] said unto him, Thou knowest how I have served thee, and how thy cattle [livestock] was with me.

Geneva Bible - But he said unto him, Thou knowest, what service I have done thee, and in what taking thy cattle hath been (*) under me.

Genesis 30:28

And he said, Appoint [name] me thy wages, and I will give [it. ]

Geneva Bible - Also he said, Appoint unto me thy wages, and I will give it thee.

Genesis 30:27

And Laban said unto him, I pray thee, if I have found favour in thine eyes, [tarry: for] I have learned by experience that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.

Geneva Bible - To whom Laban answered, If I have now found favor in thy sight, tarry; I have (*) perceived that the LORD hath blessed me for thy sake.

Genesis 30:26

Give [me] my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go: for thou knowest my  aervice which I have done thee.

(Geneva Bible) - Give me my wives and my children, for whom I have served thee, and let me go; for thou knowest what service I have done thee.

Genesis 30:25


And it came to pass, when Rachel had born Joseph, that Jacob said unto Laban, Send me away, that I may go unto mine own place, and to my country.

Geneva Bible - And as soon as Rachel had borne Joseph, Jacob said to Laban, Send me
away that I may go unto my place and to my country.

Genesis 30:24


And she called his name Joseph [lit, "He will add"]; and said, The LORD shall add to me another son.

And she conceived, and bare a son; and said, God hath taken away my reproach:

counted as a curse.

And God remembered Rachel, and God hearkened to her, and opened her womb.

Genesis 30:20


And Leah said, God hath endued me [with] a good dowry [endowment]; now will my husband dwell with me, because I have born him six sons: and she called his name Zebulun [dwelling].

husband dwell with me, because I have borne him six sons. And she called his

Genesis 30:19


And Leah conceived again, and bare Jacob the sixth son.

And Leah said, God hath given me my hire, because I have given my maiden to my husband: and she called his name Issachar.

And Jacob came out of the field in the evening, and Leah went out to meet him, and said, Thou must come in unto me; for surely I have hired thee with my son's mandrakes. And he lay with her that night.
