Genesis 21:20


And God was with the lad; and he grew, and dwelt in the wilderness, and became an archer.


Geneva Bible - So God was (i) with the child, and he grew and dwelt in the wilderness, and was an (*) archer.
(i) As touching outward things God caused him to prosper.
(*) Or, shot in the bow, and was a hunter.

Genesis 21:19


And God opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; and she went, and filled the bottle [skin] with water, and gave the lad drink.


Geneva Bible - And God (h) opened her eyes, and she saw a well of water; so she went and filled the bottle with water, and gave the boy drink.
(h) Except God open our eyes, we can neither see, nor use the means which are before us.

Genesis 21:18


Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in [with] thine hand; for I will make him a great nation.


Geneva Bible - Arise, take up the child, and hold him in thy hand, for I will make of him a great people.

Genesis 21:17


And God heard the voice  of the lad; and the angel of God called Hagar out of heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? fear not; for God hath heard the voice of the lad where he [is. ]


Geneva Bible - Then God (g) heard the voice of the child, and the Angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said unto her, What aileth thee, Hagar? Fear not, for God hath heard the voice of the child where he is.
(g) For his promise sake made to Abraham; and not because the child had discretion and judgment to
pray.

Genesis 21:16


And she went, and sat her down over [opposite] against [him] a good way off, as it were a bowshot: for she said, Let me not see the death of the child. And she sat over against [him,] and lift up her voice, and wept.


(Geneva Bible) - Then she went and sat her over against him afar off about a bowshot, for she
said, I will not see the death of the child. And she sat down over against him, and lifted up her voice, and wept.

Genesis 21:15


And the water was spent [used up] in the bottle, and she cast [placedthe child under one of the shrubs.


(Geneva Bible) - And when the water of the bottle was spent, she cast the child under a certain
tree.

Genesis 21:14


And Abraham rose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle [skin] of water, and gave [it] unto Hagar, putting [it] on her shoulder, and the child [youth], and sent her away: and she departed, and wandered in the wilderness of Beer-sheba.


(Geneva Bible) - So Abraham arose up early in the morning, and took bread, and a bottle of water, and gave it unto Hagar, putting it on her shoulder, and the child also, and (f) sent her away; who departing, wandered in the wilderness of Beer-sheba. 
(f) True faith renounceth all natural affections to obey God's commandment.

Genesis 21:13


And also of the son of the bondwoman will I make a nation, because he [is] thy seed [descendant].


(Geneva Bible) - As for the son of the bondwoman, I will make him (e) a nation also, because he is thy seed.
(e) The Ishmaelites shall come of him.


Genesis 21:12


And God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight because of the lad, and because of thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah hath said unto thee, hearken unto her voice; for in Isaac shall thy seed be called.


(Geneva Bible) -But God said unto Abraham, Let it not be grievous in thy sight for the child, and for thy bondwoman; in all that Sarah shall say unto thee, hear her voice, for in Isaac shall thy seed be (d) called.
(d) The promised seed shall be counted from Isaac, and not from Ishmael, Romans 9:7; Hebrews 11:18

Genesis 21:11


And the thing was very grievous [distressing] in Abraham's sight because of his son.


(Geneva Bible) - And this thing was very grievous in Abraham’s sight, because of his son.
